Soul Sanctuary of the Desert project.

Soon, Luke and I will be helping out the women and kids over at Soul Sanctuary of the Desert.  We're doing yard work, creating a peaceful garden, making fun mosaic projects with the kids, and more over time!  It will be several months worth of work.

We are excited to be able to help them succeed at their goals, and are open to any help - from elbow grease, to tile or materials.  If the video below inspires you to get involved, let me know!

Otherwise, please just think some well-wishes for the moms who are getting back on the right track for their families!

Check out this recent story explaining what the Soul Sanctuary is all about.

Sleek and Modern Glass Mosaic Spa Installation.

Enjoy this video slideshow of an all glass mosaic spa installation!

We love using Oceanside Glasstile for pool and spa installations for several reasons. First, the iridescence and color palette are so complimentary to any application which features water.  But more importantly from an installation standpoint, the paper-face mounting method allows maximum customization and workability of the tiles for details like the radius bench and the custom medallion.  Having the ability to manipulate sheets into curved details is essential to a seamless installation like this Bianchi spa.  The other reason we love this product is the trim availability.  These 1"V-Caps not only continue the mosaic design aesthetic, but they also guarantee smooth and soft edges throughout the installation, so no worries about sharp edges on tiny feet!

Oceanside Glasstile's 'Prose' mosaics make a striking impact

I recently completed this vignette for a showroom in Tucson, AZ.

Amy and I had the opportunity to collaborate together on this project from design through installation. We had the challenge of creating a warm and inviting focal point in a very large showroom environment.  To do this, we selected Oceanside Glasstile's 'Prose' Mosaics in a 1/2" x 4" offset pattern because of the tactile characteristic of a linear module.

I would highly recommend this glass tile product for any focal area.  From a distance, this installation appears as if it could be a woven textile, but coming closer, iridescent flashes give away the fact that it's actually thousands of shimmering glass tiles.

Pre-existing granite countertops directly influenced our color selections, the favorite being a blue-grey accent we found running through dark veins in the stone.

We used a combination of iridescent and non-iridescent finishes to create a sense of undulating texture.

The finished product is rich, warm and inviting, even in a large and open showroom environment.  We love it!

Contemporary Glass Tile Fireplace Installation

This cool, contemporary glass tile fireplace features a custom fabricated cantilevered glass mantle.

The pillowed design of these decorative glass tiles lends an overall softness to the installation.  Paired with the iridescent finish, the result is a beautiful showpiece that reflects light in all directions.

I really enjoyed the challenge of this installation once I dialed my layout in to the geometry of these irregular rhomboids.  Because I  normally work in squares, this was a nice change, and I learned from the experience.  The finished piece makes such an impact and the client was so pleased with the result!

Latest Kitchen Backsplash Trends

Glass tile continues to top the list of trends in kitchen backsplash design.  We love to see bold color and creative use of mosaics like this Sicis glass mosaic design:

As seen in this article by LeeAnn DiSanti in the May issue of Phoenix Home and Garden:

"Vivid hues and striking patterns are making backsplashes a focal point of the kitchen. Glass tiles offer bright, artistic options, while terra-cotta or ceramic tiles lend an earthy feel. Gotham, a ceramic tile by Ann Sacks (pictured LEFT), extends from floor to ceiling. The graphic design is inspired by the Mid-century Modern style of the 1950s and ’60s; various patterns are available to create durable works of art."-LeeAnn Disanti, Phoenix Home and Garden May 2011

How to make a glass mosaic medallion.

Check out this slideshow teaching the basic steps we used to create the central medallion in the bottom of an all glass mosaic spa.  This medallion was constructed with Oceanside Glasstile mosaics. By making the medallion ahead of time, we were able to ensure the quality of the layout, with stunning results.
